Kingsbury School

Deputy Head of Science

TMS/UPS + TLR2b (£6,106)

Permanent | Full-time | January 2027

Ready for your next step in leadership?

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and enthusiastic Science teacher to join Kingsbury School as Deputy Head of Science and play an important role in the continued development of our Science faculty.

We are particularly keen to hear from excellent classroom teachers who are ready to take their first step into leadership, as well as those who already have leadership experience and are looking for their next challenge.

What matters most to us is that you are passionate about Science, ambitious for young people and excited by the opportunity to develop yourself and others.

Our core purpose is to Enthuse | Aspire | Achieve. We are a rapidly developing school with high expectations, a strong sense of community and a clear ambition for every student to succeed. Our values of Respect, Kindness, Honesty, Ambition and Pride underpin everything we do.

About the role

As Deputy Head of Science, you will work closely with the Head of Science to provide strong leadership across the faculty, helping to secure excellent teaching, an ambitious curriculum and improving outcomes for all students.

This is a role in which you will be able to make a difference while developing as a leader. You will have opportunities to lead aspects of curriculum, teaching and learning, assessment and raising achievement, while supporting colleagues and contributing to the strategic development of the faculty.

We don't expect aspiring leaders to arrive as the finished product. If you have the potential, ambition and commitment to lead, we will invest in you.

You will be supported through high-quality professional development, coaching and opportunities to develop your leadership both within Kingsbury School and across Castle Phoenix Academy Trust.

The Science Faculty

You will join a committed and collaborative Science team with high aspirations for its students.

Our aim is to deliver a Science curriculum that builds knowledge, develops curiosity and enables every student to experience success. We are committed to high-quality, inclusive classroom practice and to using assessment intelligently to identify gaps, respond to students' needs and raise achievement.

The successful candidate will work alongside the Head of Science to help drive the faculty forward, while continuing to be an excellent classroom practitioner and role model for others.

This role could be for you if you:

 are an excellent Science teacher with a genuine passion for your subject;

 are an aspiring or existing leader ready for your next professional challenge;

 have the ability and potential to inspire, support and develop others;

 are ambitious for the achievement of every student, including disadvantaged students and those with SEND;

 understand the importance of high-quality curriculum, teaching and assessment in securing strong outcomes;

 are reflective, enthusiastic and keen to continue developing your own practice;

 can build positive professional relationships and contribute effectively to a team;

 share our commitment to high expectations, inclusion and providing an excellent education for every student.

Why Kingsbury?

We want teachers and leaders to be able to concentrate on what matters most: knowing their students, teaching them well and helping them succeed.

At Kingsbury you will find:

 a positive and supportive staff culture;

 clear expectations for behaviour and a pastoral team that supports teachers in maintaining them;

 a strong programme of leadership development and professional growth, with genuine opportunities for future progression;

 a school-wide commitment to inclusive, high-quality teaching;

 opportunities to work with and learn from leaders across Castle Phoenix Academy Trust;

 well-resourced classrooms and laboratories;

 an iPad for every member of teaching staff, with mirroring to classroom screens;

 strong administrative support, enabling teachers and leaders to focus on their core roles;

 free on-site parking and a range of Trust employee benefits, including cycle to work, employee discounts and access to Westfield Health.
